The Driving Rain is a view from the living-room with balcony. “Would you walk with me now through this pouring rain?” – Anne Clark
The dark underground video recording “Kraaiennest Parking” was one of our video works that was part of the “Bijlmer Years” installation and was presented in “Ode to the Bijlmer”. The video work is a one-shot recording of a scanning bicycle reconnaissance ride, a trajectory in an apparently excited condition through the indoor part of the Kraaiennest parking garage that is linked to our apartment. The video starts at the top of the garage and descends spiralingly, shaking and sliding deeper and deeper into the monumental structure. When suddenly, out of the blue, an evangelical hymn comes up that is swelling and glorious, but also appalling because associations with a kind of hell are looming, the choral prayer of the crowded church of the Pentecostal church rises at the bottom of the Kraaiennest garage to a rippling psalmodic climax.
