Icarus: artist talk: Patrick Koster: The laments of an Icarus … Kennedy Van der Laan, Amsterdam. The exhibition runs from October 12, 2016 until January 7, 2017 (see pictures). This beautiful exhibition on two floors in the gallery at Kennedy Van der Laan was curated by Erik Mattijssen.
EM: “Since 10 October, the work of artist Patrick Koster – The Laments of an Icare can be admired at our office. It does not happen so often that you come across an artist who has been working in his studio for about twenty years, but almost never showed that work. It is special to mention that in those years a strong and consistent oeuvre arose that is difficult to compare with the work of others.
He has developed – completely pioneering – a completely own method of working. That which motivates him are big social issues about good and evil. The derailed boys who cause so much suffering, with their desperate acts or well-organized violent actions.
The works are incredibly well-composed, compositionally crystal clear and yet exciting, big issues engaging without being compelling. There is plenty to do in many ways and enjoy refined use of color.
